Police Officers – Overseas Applicants

SOUTH AUSTRALIA POLICE
UNITED KINGDOM RECRUITING

The South Australia Police (SAPOL) seeks to recruit additional serving United Kingdom (UK) police officers to commence training at the Police Academy, and employment with SAPOL, for its 2009–10 intakes. The course will commence in April 2010.

Recruits will undertake a training program of 10 weeks at the Police Academy, Fort Largs, Adelaide, followed by probationary on-the-job training. Probationary periods will be calculated on the basis of an applicant’s previous police service history, and may be either 6, 9 or 12 months. SAPOL has policies that recognise prior service and prior learning for which successful applicants may qualify.

Officers are being recruited to undertake the responsibilities of general duties police positions only.

Successful recruits may be posted to either metropolitan Adelaide or country locations. Postings are determined by organisational need. SAPOL will post a number of successful applicants from each course to country locations. Minimum tenure for country locations is 2 years. Initial country postings will primarily be to Local Service Area headquarter stations.

Successful applicants will be nominated by SAPOL for an Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa for permanent residency status. Consistent with this scheme and SAPOL policy, applications are open to officers who are currently serving in a UK police service and:

  • Have a minimum 3 years continuous police service, post-training, within the last 5 years, following graduation
  • Will not turn 45 years of age before 1 April 2010.

Applications are to be emailed in PDF format (preferred option) or can be faxed (+61 8 8226 9954), and must comprise the following (forms are accessed by clicking on the listed item):
