Police Officers – Your Program
To become a Police Officer, you’ll need to undertake a two-year Constable Development Program. You can find out more about the program in this section.
For the first nine months you'll be based at the Police Academy at Taperoo for cadet training.
On this course you’ll combine academic studies in law, policy and procedures, with practical exercises, physical conditioning and operational safety and communications.
When you graduate from cadet training, you’ll be a probationary constable posted to one of the six metropolitan Local Service Areas. During your first six months you’ll have the support of a field tutor. Following this you may be posted to various locations throughout the State for the remaining nine months of your probation.
The probationary period generally takes 15 months, but can be extended to a maximum of 2 years. After your probation you’ll be considered for your permanent appointment to the rank of constable.
