Recruit Transition Course
CURRENT SERVING INTERSTATE, UNITED KINGDOM AND NEW ZEALAND POLICE
South Australia Police (SAPOL) offers a Recruit Transition Course (RTC) to current serving permanently appointed Australian, United Kingdom and New Zealand police officers. Current serving police officers from other approved overseas jurisdictions may also be considered for selection. Applicants must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or hold permanent residency in Australia.
The RTC is scheduled on a yearly basis, commencing in February each year. Recruits undertake a 12-week (approximate) Course at the Police Academy, followed by probationary on-the-job training. Probationary periods are calculated on the basis of an applicant’s previous police service history, and may be either six, nine or 12 months. SAPOL has policies that recognise prior service and prior learning for which successful applicants may qualify.
Application forms can be downloaded here. In addition, applications for the RTC must also include:
- certified copies of service records (records must be from all police services with which an applicant has served, and must be certified by an authorised representative of that service), as follows:
- service history record
- sick leave and leave without pay (including career break) records
- conduct record, including charges, reprimands, official investigations
- special skills and attributes, first aid certification, awards and commendations.
Applications must be received prior to 1 September to be considered for the RTC in February the following year.
Recruit pre-entry testing is normally scheduled over a five day period (Monday – Friday). Applicants who are 35 years of age or over will be required to complete an exercise ECG before undertaking physical assessment testing. RTC applicants are not required to complete the TAFE SA SAPOL Recruitment test prior to application.
Physical recruit pre-entry testing will comprise a shuttle run (beep test) and an agility test. For further details see Physical and Agility Testing.
