I don’t have a Certificate in Security operations or a security licence. Is it a requirement of the position?

No, it’s not mandatory. The Protective Security Officer Qualification Program will ensure that you’re eligible to perform the role.

Do South Australia Police have different pre-entry requirements for experienced mature-age entrants?

The entry requirements are the same regardless of your age or experience. All applicants undergo the same application and testing process. Physical testing, however, is adjusted and rated according to the applicant’s age.

I have a few speeding fines. Will that prevent me from applying?

This depends on how many and the circumstances surrounding them. If you have a previous criminal history or serious traffic offences please discuss these and any concerns you have with our police recruiting section before you apply.

I’ve been a security guard for many years and have done lots of training. Do I need to do the Qualification Program?

Yes. Our nine-week qualification program is required for you to become a Protective Security Officer. The program contains subjects relating particularly to the policies and procedures within SAPOL and PSSB, relevant law, communications and operational safety.

Do I have to pay for my own uniform?

No. Once you become a Protective Security Officer, we will supply you with your own uniform.

I currently hold a provisional licence. Is this acceptable for PSO entry.

No. It's a requirement of the PSO position that you hold a full South Australian car licence.
