Protective Security Officers – About You.
Successful Protective Security Officers come from a variety of backgrounds. Whether you have always wanted to join SAPOL, are currently working within the security industry, or are thinking about joining SAPOL for the first time, you will need strong communication skills, a community-minded approach and a cool head in stressful situations.
Patient, observant and capable of confidently dealing with problems, you will also be assertive. If this sounds like you, then you’ve got a lot of the qualities we value. However, before you apply you also need to meet the following requirements:
Personal qualities
You must be of excellent character; honest, dependable, self-confident, tolerant, understanding, highly motivated, culturally sensitive and committed to community safety and service. Some current or previous involvement within the community is desirable.
If you have a previous criminal history or serious traffic offences you should discuss these matters with us before you apply.
Citizenship
You must be an Australian citizen or hold permanent residency status.
Age
To apply you will need to be at least 18 years old before commencing your Protective Security Officer Qualification Program.
Driving licence
You should hold an unrestricted 'Car' class driving licence and have experience in driving both manual and automatic vehicles.”
Health and fitness
You must be medically and physically fit and will have to undertake medical and fitness examinations. If you are over 35, you must undertake an electrocardiogram (ECG) before you participate in the physical testing.
Computing skills
Familiarity with basic computer software is required.
First aid
To become a Protective Security Officer you will need a current Basic (or Essential) First Aid Certificate. You can obtain your certificate by completing a six-hour course, which you should arrange with one of the following organisations:

It’s important that the course you sign up for covers bleeding control and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
