Protective Security Officers – Why Join Us?

There are many reasons to join SAPOL as a Protective Security Officer. There is also the opportunity to progress your career as a Protective Security Officer or move into policing.

Training

The Police Security Services Branch (PSSB) will train and develop you as a Protective Security Officer in an advanced and specialised learning environment. You will receive training in operational safety, aspects of the law and communication during your 9-week course. You’ll also learn about protective measures such as the use of batons, spray, handcuffs and firearms. Even when you have qualified as a Protective Security Officer your education doesn’t stop, as you’ll undergo regular training and re-qualification to ensure your skills are maintained at the highest standard.

Team support

As a Protective Security Officer you will be connected to a supportive and helpful team, who will always look after you. Along with your friendly colleagues, you’ll have all the resources you could need at your disposal, including the backup of the Police and other government services.

Employment conditions

You will generally work a 38-hour week but may be required to work reasonable overtime. As well as entitlement to annual, personal and long service leave, you have the option of joining our Police Leave Bank Fund and Police Health Fund.

Pay rates

These are the salary scales for Protective Security Officers (effective from 11/10/08):

PSO 1-3 $38 522 - $40 345
PSO First Class 1-3 $42 802 - $46 205
PSO Supervisor 1-3 $49 602 - $53 004

You’ll also receive shift allowances in addition to your normal salary.
